My First Photo Shoot
At the end of May 2023, Trey Fry hosted a photo shoot at Kinetic MKE. Leading up to this day I was excited but nervous. Don’t get me wrong, I have had a couple of photo shoots in the past but they were casual and with me & my dog. This was different. These pictures would be used for marketing my business and that’s added pressure. So how did I prepare, you wonder? Thankfully I had a little help.
Trey informed the teachers that we would be doing head shots, teaching photos and personal exercise photos. He recommended we have a few outfits prepared as well as a list of exercises we wished to showcase. I did go shopping for some new attire and sent Trey (as well as other friends in and out of the industry) my ideas for his input.
Being a member of Agency (Lesley Logan’s business coaching group) was also an advantage. We use Slack to communicate so I searched previous conversations to gain more insight. I learned tips for hair & makeup, outfit do’s and don’ts, as well as what to consider when selecting exercises.
I then contemplated my exercise choices. I considered things like angles, facial expressions, equipment, etc. I also asked a few clients and a pilates friend to be my bodies during the teaching photos. Having real movers felt more my style and authenticate to who I am. Plus, I knew these people would shine!
The day of the photo shoot I was less nervous thanks to the prep work. My friend, Martha at Skin & Beauty Lab LLC did my makeup. Her face always looks great and has a natural look, hence why I asked for her help. Aliza Baron, our photographer, was so kind and she’s such a talent. She guided us through our headshots, using the natural light from the studio. As we continued on with the afternoon she directed us when necessary but allowed us to flow through the movements naturally. There were moments where I felt unsure, would look at her or ask a question and she gave a nod or let me know it was okay to keep moving forward.
Now that I’ve seen the photos I’ve fallen in love with many of them. I feel as though she captured some wonderful moments while I was teaching, as well as while I was moving. I cannot wait to showcase them on Insta, Facebook and here!
