Teaser – Friend or Foe?

Teaser on reformer

Most days the teaser and I do not get along

I have struggled with the teaser my whole practice. Thus the reason I dislike it so much. I honestly do not recall practicing the teaser with my first instructor. Once I began working with Dawn I would attempt and practice on the reformer, mat and tower. Dawn would always assist me with my legs. The frustration grew each week when I would try to get them up. It took more than a year to raise them on my own. The first time I was able to complete the teaser was on the tower, spring from below. I remember crying because I was overjoyed and amazed. You’d think that would help ease the pain but here I am, four years later, and still struggling.

Teaser in Tower

Some days are better than others

These days, if you are ever in a tower class with me, you will hear me moan and see me grimace at the mention of doing the teaser series. Everyone in class knows it’s my nemesis. I can’t help it. However, I will do it to the best of my ability. Sometimes I will complete the whole series, other times I struggle.

Variations and flows help

I don’t know what it is but I succeed in doing the teaser series when there is choreography. I have brought up flows I’ve seen on Instagram and Dawn has as well. They seem to work. Anyone else have success with that? I don’t know if it’s because I am concentrating on the pattern or what, but I have a tendency to complete the whole series when there is a routine.

I’ve met a few people from Instagram who have similar feelings over the teaser. I’d love to hear your fears and successes! What helped you get past the dislike? What are your success stories? Have you always enjoyed the teaser?
