Momentum Fest 2019

The second year!

Momentum Fest felt the same yet different this year. My jitters weren’t there but I had a ton of energy running through me. I couldn’t wait to bump into friends I met in 2018, meet new people, learn new things and indulge in all the creativity and fun. I knew what to expect from the weekend but was also wondering what surprises awaited me.

The classes

Gosh, it was hard to decide which classes to take. There were so many great teachers and content to choose from. This year, they had up and coming instructors hosting classes at 7am! I tend to choose classes based on what I am needing work on. I suffer from plantar fasciitis so when they offered Happy Feet with Carol Crincoli I was willing to get up early. They also offered an Oov class at 7am and I couldn’t wait to indulge and learn more about it.

There was also Stand Up Straight! with Carrie Pagès which focused on the changes our bodies were doing because of smartphones and tablets. Considering I have been in the wireless industry for 22 years, I knew this was a class that would peek my interest. Since I don’t really get along with the teaser, I took Delia Buckmaster’s The Same Yet Different which incorporated other pilates moves (some which resembled the teaser) and put them in a different position. I also want to have a stronger backside so I took Jessica Valant’s The Power of Backbends class.

I pushed myself harder than last year, taking more classes and I walked away really proud of myself. One of the greatest things about Momentum Fest, for me, is realizing how capable I am. Sometimes you need to push yourself out of your comfort zone and this was another way for me to do that. Normally, in my pilates life, my instructors are the one pushing me. This time, I did it myself!

The instructors

I cannot say enough about the instructors that show up at Momentum Fest. Familiar faces joined back up and new ones connected with us. They each bring something brilliant to the movement world. They are empowering, creative, and kind human beings. I took classes from those I learned from last year, those who I learned from when they were near my home and some new instructors. I had such a great time every hour I moved. I was very pleased with the content they offered, the music they choreographed to, the smiles they gave us to keep moving forward and the meditative time.

The Community

The community that shows up to move at Momentum Fest is something else. Many of the people who I bumped into or chatted with were so kind. I think it’s great to surround yourself with people who are positive and encouraging you to be the best human you can be, and that is what I found over the weekend. I ran into people who I met last year, new faces from Instagram that I had been following, fellow ambassadors and reunited with those I met during my travels to pilates studios around the country.

Overall, this year exceeded expectations again. The conversations I had were deeper. The movement was a mix of difficult and fun. The atmosphere was upbeat, even when everyone was exhausted or sleepy. It was an epic weekend! And if you’re wondering what surprises the weekend brought me, I’m sorry to disappoint you but I am not sharing that little bit. During the finale, someone said to take one thing away from the weekend and keep it for yourself. That is what I am doing. Those moments will be with me and in my heart only.

I cannot wait to see what Jessica & Brian do in 2020. Will I be seeing you in Colorado June 2020?
