My Journey

A safe haven..

Pilates was and is a safe haven for me.  You see, I initially found pilates when I was about to get married, in 2007. Due to buying a house and adjusting to married life, I didn’t continue my lessons. It was short lived, sadly. I found pilates a second time, in fall of 2011, when my life seemed to be spinning out of control and I was contemplating leaving my marriage. It’s interesting, looking back now, how I found pilates at transitional points in my life.

My practice gave me a time and place to focus, clear my mind and think about my well being. A year into practicing, I ramped up my private lessons to twice a week. Jennifer, my Stott instructor, was kind, generous with her knowledge, pushed me, and sensitive to what was happening in my personal life, everything I needed at that time.

Within two years she had to move across state. She was beyond encouraging with me continuing my practice, helping me figure out how to afford a reformer for my home, and even allowed me to record our final lesson together. She knew there was something in me that could grow with this practice before I did. It’s interesting how others see something in you before you do.

I was on my own..

From 2013 until I stumbled upon a new studio that opened down the street from my home in Spring 2015. Up until this point I was utilizing my DVD’s, reformer and a few accessories to continue doing pilates. I was maintaining but not challenging myself too much because I knew I would need a spot and another set of eyes. When I peeked through the studio windows while on the phone with my friend Mel, I was screaming with excitement over all the various pieces of equipment I saw!

Pilates enthusiast & future teacher

Needless to say, I am an enthusiast and nerd. I geek out over all things pilates. Pilates was a sneaky little devil who crept slowly into my world, bringing so much therapy – physically, mentally and emotionally. Around 2015 I knew this was what I wanted to do with my life. Don’t get me wrong, I love what I currently do but I believe I’ve found my calling. To be able to share my passion with others, help them experience movement this way, is something I look forward to doing.

And the journey never ends!
