Four Graces Pilates
April 2014
I took a road trip, alone, to Oklahoma City, OK and needed to find things to fill my time. Using the internet I found Four Graces Pilates. The studio offers pilates, barre, TRX and instructor training. Upon walking in you enter the lobby where they have clothing to shop from. Seeing as this was the first time I’d step foot in a pilates studio, I wasn’t expecting the ability to shop.
Once inside you notice the studio was divided into two halves. One side was pilates and the other was barre and TRX. The space was very warm and beautiful, thanks to the calming glow from the lanterns above.
The obsession begins.
During my visit I took a group class with the owner, Sarah. She was kind, motivating and very patient with me. Some of the direction and queues she gave I wasn’t familiar with. Looking back, this is partly due to my naiveté but also because I was Stott trained and this wasn’t a Stott studio. Overall, Sarah was easy to follow and made adjustments for me when necessary.
One thing I truly enjoyed was when we were directed to bring the equipment outside. We took either a spine corrector or arc barrel out to the sidewalk and continued class there. Now that I’m more familiar with Joseph Pilates, I realize how brilliant this was. Joe says, “Never fail to get as much fresh air as possible”. Sarah brought that thought process to life while practicing pilates. Genius!
After class I spoke with Sarah and she invited me back to try a barre class. I had never been to a barre class so I said yes! Boy, did the class kick my tail but I had a blast.
Oklahoma City is lucky to have a studio like 4GP. The instructors and students are pleasant, thoughtful and encouraging. I do look forward to the day I get back there.
